My Eighth Day
Today at Madison Spine I did the laundry which consists of towels, pillowcases, and blankets. After I was done washing them, I had to fold them and put them in a place where the physical therapists can have easy access to. After, I took information on discharge charts and typed it into the computer. This is important because if every patient is in the computer system, it will be easier to pull out their information chart when needed.
My Seventh Day
Today at Madison Spine I had the privilege of helping a patient name Fred. Fred is a 79 year old with the best attitude ever. I helped him do all of his exercises and aided the Physical Therapist in stretching him out. I also helped cleaned the tables after patients were finished using them. I liked how today I had a more hands on experience with the patients.

My Fifth Day
Today I learned about physical therapy for migraine and tension-type headaches. I learned that migraines usually last 2-3 days and are associated with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to normal levels of light and sound. A Physical therapist may be able to find the source of a migraine and tension headache. Once an evaluation is made your physical therapist will help you create a unique program of exercise that will bring relief to your headache.

My Fourth Day
Today at Madison Spine and Physical Therapy I had to fold pamphlets on the benefits of aerobic aquatic therapy. When I first started volunteering at Madison Spine I had no idea they had a pool. When exercising in water, you work against 12 times the resistance of air so I think it's excellent that they have aquatic therapy for their patients. I also filed names of patients who have been discharged this year.

My Third Day
Today at Madison Spine and Physical Therapy I had to transfer patient names who have been discharged into a word document. This is important because when it is necessary to view an old patients history they could just check the word document instead of going through the file to find their name. I also folded laundry (towels, pillow cases, blankets, etc) that are used in the pool area or for certain physical therapy exercises.

My Second Day
Today when I arrived I was assigned to make folders containing information on Madison Spine. These folders are important because they are sent out to doctors offices around the area so patients who need physical therapy can check if Madison Spine and Physical Therapy is the right place for them. I also transferred patient names from folders to a computer.

My First Day
Today was my first day volunteering at Madison Spine and Physical Therapy. When I arrived, I was friendly welcomed by Lauren who is the head of the volunteering department. My first task was to fold pamphlets on Plantar Fasciitis (heel pain), which is caused when the plantar fascia is inflamed causing discomfort and pain. Through these pamphlets I learned exercises that can help relieve the pain which was helpful since I do have heel pain due to track. I also folded laundry and learned how to clean electrode pads which provide tiny electrical signals into the skin.
